What is Photometry and what is it for in Lighting?

What is it?

Photometry refers to the light intensity distribution curve, which shows us how the light coming from a light source is distributed in different directions in space. In other words, the photometric curve shows the luminous distribution of the luminaires.

What is it for?

Through this tool we can specify the correct parts for each lighting project and achieve the best cost-benefit for the customer.

The quantity and quality of lighting is as important as the aesthetic aspect of the pieces, as an environment with inadequate lighting can lead to unnecessary consumption or a poorly functional light distribution.

Thus, understanding what a photometry is is essential to have access to information such as the luminous flux and light intensity of a luminaire.

How it works?

The curve graphically shows the behavior of a light source and allows the measurement of the luminous flux, both from the light source and from the luminaire itself.
